Central Oregon Jobs with Justice is a coalition of unions and community organizations working together for economic and social justice. Our coalition was organized by local union activists in late 2003 after seeing a Bend Cable union organizing campaign fail; after an attempt by our local school district to privatize (and de-unionize) certain staff; and after we saw a virulent homophobic backlash to a proposed Bend Equal Rights ordinance that included protection against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. We felt strongly that what Central Oregon workers and the community needed was a labor-community coalition to fight for all of our rights.
Our mission is to protect and advance the right to organize, defend the living standards of working people, fight for job security and safe working conditions, and support contract campaigns and strikes. We participate in struggles for living wage jobs, fair trade and immigrant rights, and against privatization, globalization and inhumane workfare programs. Jobs with Justice opposes racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, anti-Semitism and other forms of religious and cultural bigotry, and will actively support struggles against any form of discrimination.
